Sugarloaf – 3/19/06

Liz’s second time skiing and somehow I conviced her to go for a week. Not only that but I was able to get here to spend 7+ hours in the car (each way) to get there.

Sugarloaf is in Carrabassat Valley, ME and is basically where I learned to ski. I have great memories of the place and was super excited to get up there again and see how the place has changed. Also a full week of skiing will make a huge difference for Liz.

Unfortunately, we arrove to rain. It got colder as the week progressed and we ended up getting some good snow. Liz’s improvement was incredible.

We also had a really nice dinner at Bullwinkle’s (the mid-mountain restaurant). They run nighttime shuttles up to the restaurant in a tricked out SnoCat. Totally awesome, at one point we couldn’t make it up th icy grade and they had to whip the cat around to take a different path. It was like a snowy rollercoaster.

Liz’s first ski trip : Killington – 1/16/06

If this relationship (and by relationship I mean marriage) is going to work Lizzie is going to have to learn how to ski.

So I utilized the age old training program for getting someone addicted to skiing. Anyone else who wants to make their significant other into a skiier should follow this regimen:

step 1) Wake up early (not to early). Make sure you are comfortably dressed and put him/her into a group morning lesson.
step 2) Meet after the lesson for lunch, taking them to the summit restaurant.
step 3) Ski the afternoon with them commenting often on how much they picked up in their morning lesson.
step 4) Get off the mountain no later than 3:30 to get to Apres Ski.
step 5) Get home no later than 6 to take a power nap.
step 6) Dinner, doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
step 7) Drinking, dancing and partying until you can’t stand.
step 8) Wake up the next morning, rinse and repeat.

It can’t fail!

Any way look how well it worked out.

Liz and I are engaged!

I brought Liz up to Maine for the first time for what I hoped would be a wonderful first time trip for her to the Maine house. Of course if she said no to what I had in store it would probably have been a short trip.

Anyway at the top of Mount Battie in Camden, ME I proposed… and she said yes!

Liz, taken aback by the sudden/abrupt proposal said we hadn’t really talked about it. I replied that there was no time like the present and that we should talk…. it went something like this:

Liz: “What about kids… I want to have kids.”
James: “Of course I want kids”
Liz: “Can we raise them Jewish?”
James: Stunned silence… “How else would we raise them?”

Anyway you can see some pictures from the week here.
